Event Navigation
On 2 and 3 June 2018, with two shows at 7.00 pm and 8.30 pm inside the Castle of Santa Severa, the Controtempo Theater Company will guide the audience in the enchanting atmosphere of the places of the village, thus reviving the tragic events of Iago, Othello and Desdemona and all the other characters of the famous drama “Othello” by Shakespeare with the Directed by Lilith Petillo and Pasquale Candela. The event is organized in collaboration with Regione Lazio, LAZIOcrea, Mibact, the Municipality of Santa Marinella and Coopculture. Between fights, desperation and moments of passion, the drama of Moro will revive in a completely innovative and engaging version. The show, in fact, will be “itinerant”: in this sense, the public will have the opportunity to witness the performance by immersing itself in the beauty of the different environments of the location and feeling an integral part of the work.
“When we decided to stage Othello” – we read in the director’s notes – we linked it to the possibility of bringing it on stage to castles, villages and other places of great historical-cultural interest. So this has bound us in the choice of its stage performance. It is certainly a rewrite: we have chosen to see the whole work through the eyes of Iago who is a manipulator, this decision comes from the locations where we put on show the show that allow us to remain loyal to the Otello both in costumes and in stylistic choices… We tried to represent a traveling work where the actors are always in close contact with the spectators. We find ourselves in halls or open spaces, with the audience standing three meters from the actor. Such a relationship of closeness and proxemics leads us to have to act in a more naturalistic way trying to transmit all those concepts that we consider important. The character of Iago, for directorial choices, breaks the fourth wall in many moments, often speaks with the audience and drags him from one environment to another: the need to mobilize the audience comes from the desire to fully introduce the audience in the show”.
The cast is made up of young professional actors. Othello, struggling with his irrepressible jealousy, will be Dario Carbone. Iago, probably one of the most complex characters of Shakespearean writings, cunning, evil and improbably insane, will be played by Venancio Amoroso. On the other hand, actress Paola Fiore Burgos will take on the role of the beautiful young Desdemona. Cassio, faithful lieutenant of the Moro, will be Danilo Franti. Roderigo, madly in love with Desdemona, will be interpreted instead by Marco Guglielmi; in the role of Emilia, wife of Iago, we will find Lilith Petillo, while Montano, a friend of Otello, will be Massimiliano Cutrera.
