Saturday, March 10th at 17.00 at the Nostromo room of the Castle of Santa Severa, will be held one conference entitled “The necropolis of Cerveteri: history and archeology of the cult of the dead” by Flavio Enei, director of the Museum of the sea and ancient navigation.

The conference is part of the cultural program of February-April of the Archaeological Group of the Cerite territory. The Archaeological Group of the Cerite Territory (Gatc) is a voluntary association of citizens committed to the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage, with particular reference to heritage historical-archaeological site of the ancient Cerite territory, which makes use of the contribution of archaeologists, philologists, historians, architects and art historians and aims to disseminate the knowledge of the history of the area, activating itself to allow the direct participation of citizens in safeguard, study and recovery initiatives functional of the testimonies of the past, in collaboration with the relevant bodies.

The conference will focus on the Etruscan people that still fascinates due to its enigmatic origin and for the language still to be deciphered and on the archaeological area of the Banditaccia necropolis, which is one of the more extensive in the world with a surface able to accommodate about two thousand tombs. The place, located on one summit tuff to the north of Cerveteri, dedicated exclusively to the cult of the dead, was built from the Etruscans to bury their dead in that place.
